The first-cycle higher professional study programme International Business was approved by the Accreditation Senate of the Council of the Republic of Slovenia for Higher Education on 12 June 2009.

Legal Status of the Higher Education Institution

Private higher education institution – higher professional school.

Level of Education

First-cycle higher professional degree programme:

  • SQF 7

  • EQF 6

  • EOVK first cycle

Language of Instruction

Slovenian and English.

Duration of the Programme

The Higher Professional Diploma in International Business lasts three years.

  • First year:

    • 8 compulsory courses

  • Second year:

    • 6 compulsory courses

    • 2 elective courses

    • Practical training

  • Third year:

    • 4 compulsory courses

    • 2 elective courses

    • Practical training

Practical training:

  • Total of 400 hours (20 ECTS)

Completion of studies:

  • Independent professional work (Diploma thesis): 10 ECTS

Entry Requirements

Candidates are eligible for admission to the first year if they have successfully completed one of the following:

  • A four- or five-year vocational secondary education programme with a final examination

  • A general baccalaureate

  • A vocational baccalaureate

If the number of applicants exceeds the available study places, candidates are selected based on:

  • General pass mark in the general or vocational baccalaureate or final examination (60%)

  • General pass mark in the third and fourth years of secondary school (40%)

Mode of Study

Part-time study.

Forms of Study

  • Classical (on-site) study:
    Lectures take place in a classroom and enable direct interaction with lecturers, guest speakers, and fellow students. Teaching is conducted according to a predefined timetable.

  • Distance (online) study:
    Live online lectures conducted via MS Teams.

  • Combined (hybrid) study:
    A combination of classroom-based lectures and live online instruction via MS Teams, integrating the advantages of both classical and online study formats.

Study Requirements and Progression

To complete the programme, students must:

  • Earn 180 ECTS, and

  • Complete 400 hours of practical training

Progression rules:

  • Advancement to the second year requires at least 45 ECTS from the first year.

  • Advancement to the third year requires:

    • At least 45 ECTS from the second year, and

    • At least 52 ECTS from the first year.

Exceptional progression:
In cases of long-term medical treatment, chronic illness, maternity, or other justified reasons, a student may be conditionally promoted:

  • To the second year with at least 20 ECTS from the first year.

  • To the third year with:

    • At least 20 ECTS from the second year, and

    • At least 45 ECTS from the first year.

Attendance at lectures and tutorials is defined by the implementing curriculum. After fulfilling all programme requirements, the student defends their diploma thesis.

Learning Objectives, Skills, and Competences

The primary objective of the International Business programme is to educate and train students to perform professional and managerial tasks in various organisational systems, including companies and institutions involved in international cooperation.

Students acquire:

  • Fundamental theoretical and professional knowledge in business

  • Practical and applied knowledge for international business environments

  • Competences to independently plan, organise, implement, and monitor work processes

  • Communication skills in foreign languages

Elective Courses

  • Second year:
    Students select two elective courses from the list specified in the study programme curriculum.

  • Third year:
    Students select two elective courses from the same elective course list.

Restriction:
Courses selected in the second year may not be repeated in the third year.

Semester Implementation

Courses are delivered according to the official timetable of the respective academic year.

  • Courses assigned to a single semester are delivered in that semester.

  • Courses with two possible semesters are delivered according to the timetable and not in both semesters.
